Quality Contributor Program

The Purpose of the Quality Contributor Pilot Program

  • To maximise the quality of the MySQL Database
  • To make it easy for contributors, in the community, to provide us with valuable Community QA
  • To improve the value of contributions by taking it one step further from mere bug reports to also contain functional tests and bug patches

eports to also contain functional tests and bug patches

Role Model: Perl

Perl has one of the best testing environments in the open source world. Their regression test is a reference for all open source players, and its coverage tops 85%. CPAN, the Comprehensive Perl Archive Network is a role model for a distributed testing environment.

What the session looks like

Brainstorming and open discussion on the new Quality Contributor Program about to be launched by MySQL

Defining a Quality Contributor

A Quality Contributor is a Community (or Enterprise) user of MySQL who provides MySQL with QA related value in the form of

a) bug reports (or refinements thereof)

b) functional tests for bug reports

c) bug patches (or elements thereof)

Motivating Quality contribution

Contributing to a Quality Assurance process is of mutual benefit for the software maker and for final users. In addition to craving for quality, though, contributors need some incentive to become active bug reporters or testers.

What turns a member of the community from passive onlooker to active contributor? MySQL is developing a plan of balancing incentives, such as recognition, involvement in Quality Assurance processes, access to dedicated resources, and eventually, more tangible rewarding measures.

Step up and say what you think about this issue.

Who should come

Anyone interested in actively contributing to the quality of the MySQL Database.
